Coke was found to be the most polluting brand in a global audit of plastic waste, according to the charity Break Free from Plastic in 2019. For the second year in a row. But according to Coke´s head of sustainability “people still want plastic bottles”, when speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos (https://www.bbc.com/news/business-51197463).

As a renown global research company regularly interviewing consumers around the world, we know that is not the case. As a long term partner with the forest industry, we also know that there are fiber based solutions out there. Therefore it´s encouraging that Coke have joined the renewable packaging providers BillerudKorsnäs´s joint venture to develop a fiber based “paper bottles” with Carlsberg as one of the pioneers. (https://www.billerudkorsnas.com/media/news/2017/billerudkorsnas-joins-carlsberg-circular-community).

Because it´s time to act. Not only for Coke. Country after country is acting. EU have strict regulations on the way and even China, as one of the world's biggest users of plastic, has initiated a major plan to reduce the usage of plastics. But many brands are still far behind this movement. They just talk and highlight “future initiatives”. They will be punished, not only by the authorities, consumers will opt out of using plastic based materials. (https://www.forbes.com/sites/trevornace/2020/01/20/china-to-ban-all-single-use-plastics/#1886a5047293).

Fibers from well-managed, growing forests might not be the only solution towards a more sustainable world, but it will play a major role.
